Dr. Nandi received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Calcutta University in 2014. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Leibniz-DAAD Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Dresden, Germany, where he conducted research for one year.
Following this, he returned to India and joined the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur as a National Postdoctoral Fellow (NPDF) under the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi, for two years.
Dr. Nandi has gained international experience in research and project management in Materials Science and Engineering through his work at the University of South Africa, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, and the Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS).
In 2022, he was awarded the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellowship by the European Commission. Under this program, he served as an experienced researcher at RCPTM-CATRIN, Palacký University Olomouc, Czechia, and the University of Groningen, Netherlands, for two years. In August 2025, Dr. Nandi joined MIT Mumbai as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry.

1. Energy Storage Materials
- Development of graphene-based electrodes for supercapacitors.
- Synthesis of transition metal oxides and carbides for high-performance energy storage.
- Improvement of electrochemical performance through nanostructure engineering.
2. Environmental Remediation
- Removal of arsenic, fluoride, heavy metals and dyes from contaminated water.
- Development of magnetic nanocomposites and graphene-based adsorbents for water purification.
3. Gas and Humidity Sensors
- Fabrication of metal oxide/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites for sensitive detection of carbon monoxide, ammonia and humidity.
- Investigation of sensing mechanisms and nanostructure-property relationships.
4. Polymer and Nanocomposites
- Conductive polymer nanocomposites based on polypyrrole and PEDOT.
- Sustainable polymer composites incorporating recycled materials and natural fibers.
- Self-healing epoxy systems and advanced functional coatings.
5. Sustainable Materials
- Conversion of biological and industrial waste such as fish scales, nail waste and chicken feathers into functional materials for adsorption and energy storage.
